Where To Spend Valentine's Day In Bangkok

Where To Spend Valentine’s Day 2015 In Bangkok

Just in case you have missed the red heart displays in window shops and the tables full of heart shaped boxes of chocolates we have a newsflash for you: Valentine’s Day is on 14 February and it’s the day of the year you are expected to go overboard in showing your nearest and dearest how much they mean to you.

Just in case you had missed all of the love being shared by the shops and malls and are at a loss with what to do on Valentine’s Day, here are some ideas of what you can do:

1. Take our food tour!

How better to celebrate Cupid’s day than by taking our food tour around Bangrak, also known as the Village of Love. There are two stories behind the name behind the name Bangrak.

The first is that Rak refers to a kind of canal plant in the district and there used to be a huge Rak tree sunken into one of the canals, but the second, more common, and to be honest our favourite is that the original Thai spelling translated to Village of Cure (raksa means “to care for” in Thai), and over time the Thai spelling was shortened rak which means “love” transforming the meaning and the area into Bangkok’s one and only Village of Love.

Share the love and let us share our love of food with you!

2. Free Hugs

During February a group of volunteer huggers have been pottering around Bangkok offering free hugs to strangers and raising money to two worthwhile causes – Operation Smile and In Search Of Sanuk.

The campaign comes to a close this weekend, so if you fancy helping the group reach their total of 30,000 hugs. Head down to El Osito Sandwiches and Tapas from 7pm onwards and the restaurant will match each hug donated with a 20 THB donation. Enjoy a variety of tapas from Daniel Bucher along with the specially created “Lobster Roll” and delicious bubbly cocktails.

3. Head outdoors!

To the surprise of many, Bangkok is full of luscious green parks. Head out to Lumpini or Benjakitti and perhaps take a picnic and enjoy spending a couple of hours relaxing under the shade of a tree and spending quality time together.

4. Indulge yourselves!

Bangkok is full of restaurants and many are offering special offers and deals for this weekend. Take for example TWG Tea (Emporium or Siam Paragon) who are offering a special “Love Me” tea time set including 2 glasses of exclusive “Love Me” Tea mocktails and a limited edition Amour de The Valentine Macaron. The Novotel at Siam Square invites you to try succulent dishes including  Poached Salmon with Romeo sauce,  Seared duck breast with passion fruit sauce and Pork Tenderloin with pomegranate sauce as part of their international Valentine Buffet. Each table will also receive a special Valentine’s gift.
